W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high quality, heritage-inspired garments for women - with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converting shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops & artisans.
The 2024 collection, titled Diesel Fueled Defiance, is inspired by women who were on the forefront of automobile racing during the Civil Rights movements of the 1960s. Facing down particularly fierce and widespread sexist sentiments, these women brought about advancement for all women through their relentless pursuit of speed and the feeling of adventure.
The Jane Pant is a contemporary take on vintage military trousers, with a more exaggerated fit and contrast zip pockets on each hip. The legs are relaxed, with a dramatic taper below the knee for a dramatic carrot cut with a slightly cropped length. Though there are only two pockets, they're exceptionally roomy, with full zip closures that make them also exceptionally secure.
They're made from a deadstock Japanese stripe fabric that is woven up with 95% cotton and 5% polyester yarns, featuring a dark olive body with narrow red pin stripes. The pockets and belt loops are cut from a contrasting cotton olive twill, breaking up the stripes and emphasizing their military inspiration. Over time, the material will relax, taking the shape of the wearer's body as the fabric breaks in from wear and washing.
